As an intern at Snow’s Bend Farm, you will experience virtually every aspect of a successful commercial vegetable and cut flower farm.  It is our hope that interns will leave with all the knowledge they need to start their own farms.  Following our examples of possible activities:

Field work:  harvesting, transplanting, weeding, pruning, thinning, irrigation, mulching, trellising

Tractor work:  bed preparation, cultivation, bush hogging

Greenhouse operation:  seeding, watering, soil mix, pest and disease management

Packing shed operation:  washing, grading, quality control, storage requirements for all veggies and flowers, packing CSA

Marketing and Sales:  delivering produce to restaurants, distributing CSA, working farmer’s market stands

Weekly readings and discussion:  various farm related literature will be provided and discussed

Field trips:  to one or more interesting local farms

Interns will be required to work 5 days a week, 6 – 10 hours each day.  A stipend of $150/week will be provided.  In addition to all the hands on experience and monetary compensation, interns may have all the produce they want for personal consumption.

Interns will get out of this program what they put into it.  Those who work hard will be rewarded with a greater knowledge of what is required to succeed on their own farm.
