ONIONS

Onions are not extremely nutritious, but are low in calories and add flavor to every dish.  They do contain phytonutrients, such as allyl sulfides that can lower blood pressure.  Greek athletes are said to have eaten a lot of onions to “lighten the balance of  blood”.  Quercetin is another phytonutrient found in onions and is a flavinoid with high antioxidant activity.  Onions may also lower cholesterol and inhibit tumor growth
